Understanding your Child’s Cognitive and Learning Profile

At Nature & Nurture Psychology, we offer specialist neuropsychological assessments for children and young people. These assessments are designed to build a detailed picture of how a young person thinks, learns, and processes information going beyond an IQ score, to explore the specific cognitive strengths and difficulties that underpin their everyday functioning.

This type of assessment is particularly valuable for young people with a known or suspected neurodevelopmental condition such as autism or ADHD, those experiencing difficulties in school that are not yet fully understood, and those whose families or schools are seeking evidence to support an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) application or review.

Are we the right service for your child?

We are a specialist neurodevelopmental and clinical psychology practice, not educational psychologists. If a Local Authority is specifically requesting an Educational Psychology report as part of an EHCP statutory assessment, we would recommend clarifying with them whether a neuropsychological report from a Clinical Psychologist would meet their requirements.

However, if you are looking for a thorough, clinically detailed understanding of your child’s cognitive and neuropsychological profile in order to inform school support, an EHCP application, a tribunal, or your own understanding of their needs we are able to help. Our extensive experience with autism, ADHD, and associated learning profiles means we understand the complexity of neurodivergent presentations in a way that is directly relevant to the assessments we provide.

What is included in our neuropsychological assessment?

Our base assessment (from £1,800) includes:

  • Review of existing reports, school information, and referral background prior to assessment
  • A detailed parent or carer clinical interview, covering developmental history, current difficulties, and functional impact across home and school
  • Teacher liaison and review of school-based information
  • Administration of the WISC-V (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition) the gold-standard measure of cognitive ability for children and young people, assessing verbal comprehension, visual-spatial reasoning, fluid reasoning, working memory, and processing speed
  • A core neuropsychological battery, which may include measures of memory, learning, and executive functioning (e.g. CVLT-C, CHAMP) selected to suit your child’s profile
  • A comprehensive written report suitable for EHCP purposes, including a formulation, cognitive profile, and tailored recommendations for school and home support
  • A feedback appointment to discuss findings and next steps

Optional add-ons

The following are not included in the base assessment fee. Where they are clinically indicated or requested by parents or carers, they are discussed and agreed with you before any assessment takes place and quoted separately:

  • School observation (add-on, not included in base fee) a direct observation of your child in their school setting, providing valuable real-world context to the assessment findings. Subject to availability, please contact us to discuss.
  • Speech and Language assessment with our in-house specialist Speech and Language Therapist, including administration of the CELF (Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals – Fifth Edition) and written report
  • Extended neuropsychological battery where a broader range of cognitive measures is clinically indicated
  • ADHD assessment module if ADHD is part of the clinical picture and has not previously been assessed, this can be incorporated into the assessment pathway; please see our ADHD assessment page

Fees

Our neuropsychological assessment starts from £1,800. Because every child is different, we scope each assessment individually to ensure we are providing what is genuinely needed and not charging for what isn’t. Please contact us for a personalised quote via the contact page.
