Family Therapy

About the service

Children who have experienced developmental trauma within their early life may find it difficult to build relationships with caregivers. Early neglect and abuse can leave children feeling scared and fearful of trusting adults, and they may have learnt ways of managing in these situations. Some of these strategies that children have developed to cope may then lead to behaviours that can be difficult to parent.

Attachment focused therapies aim to help children to feel safe within their family relationships and help parents have a better relationship with their child. It can also help parents to make sense of worrying behaviours that children may be showing due to their early trauma.

Therapeutic parenting, and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) are approaches that are helpful in enhancing family relationships.

Assessment of attachment & trauma

Our psychological assessments take into account the impact of early experience on current key attachment relationships, for example with parents.

Speech and language therapy

Speech and language therapy is often used as a key component of our Autism Assessment process. This includes assessment of speech and communication difficulties.
