ADHD Assessment
Comprehensive, multidisciplinary assessment for children and young people
ADHD assessments for children and young people
We provide thorough ADHD assessments for children and young people, delivered by a team of specialist Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and Specialist Therapists. We are a CQC-registered, neuro-affirmative service: our assessments are designed to understand each child as an individual, recognising both their difficulties and their strengths. Our reports can contribute to evidence for a child’s Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).
Because ADHD and autism frequently co-occur, we routinely consider both, and many children are assessed for the two together within a single process.
How our ADHD assessment works
Our assessment draws together information from you, your child and their school, so that conclusions are based on a full picture rather than a single appointment. We believe that children require thorough and gold standard assessment for neurodevelopmental differences, and this is what we provide. Our assessments are frequently used to contribute to Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
The process is shared with our autism assessment. Each stage is described in more detail on the pages below:
- Parent interview – a detailed history of your child’s development.
- Child session – observation based assessment with a Clinical Psychologist
- Cognitive assessment – identifying strengths and challenges. These standardised assessments focus on attention, and other cognitive aspects of ADHD
- School observations – school observations / teacher liaison where appropriate
- Team decision making – the team reviews the findings together in an MDT and forms its recommendations and outcomes.
- Feedback – We meet to share the outcome and our recommendations with you.
- Ongoing support – following a diagnosis, we offer children a ‘Discovery Session’ with a Specialist Therapist to explore what this means for them. We also offer ongoing advice and consultation to families and schools, considering ways of supporting neurodivergent children in all settings (please note, ongoing support is priced separately in addition to the assessment, this service is not mandatory, please contact us for details)
Where appropriate, ADHD and autism can be assessed together within a single combined assessment. Read more about our autism assessment.
Medical review and ADHD medication support coming soon
We are developing a medical pathway for children and young people who have received a diagnosis of ADHD. Once available, this will provide access to medical review with our Consultant Paediatrician within the same team that carried out the assessment, supporting continuity of care.
When the pathway launches, it will include:
- Medical review with our GMC-registered Consultant Paediatrician to consider whether medication may be appropriate as part of a wider plan of support, following MDT assessment.
- Medication initiation and titration, where clinically indicated and agreed with families.
- Ongoing medication review and monitoring.
- Support where sleep difficulties are affecting a child.
Medication is one part of a broader approach and is not appropriate for every child. The purpose of the pathway will be to provide clear, balanced information and specialist oversight so that families can make informed decisions.
This service is in development. If you would like to be notified when it becomes available, please contact our team so we can contact you when our medical clinics go live.
Governance
Our service is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). When the medical pathway launches, prescribing will be led by a GMC-registered Consultant Paediatrician, with appropriate prescribing and controlled-drug governance in place, and we will liaise with your child’s GP regarding ongoing care.
